Maison de la Ferme, 'a perfect place for a holiday' surrounded by fields, woods and vines. Relax in an elegant sejour, eat in a stone walled dining room, beside the pool or on the terrace and sleep in any of four charming en-suite bedrooms. You'll love the 9m x 6m heated pool within a lawned and rose trellised garden and enjoy exclusive use of the full-sized pool table. You can explore our fields and woods, ride the ponies, drive a tractor and collect free-range eggs. There's privacy, wine, weather, boules, bikes, satellite TV and a warm welcome, plus a complimentary and memorable arrival meal.

The historic and tranquil hill-top village of Villefranche de Lonchat is just 4 kms away with its two churches, museum, well stocked village shop, baker, chemist, two bars, restaurants and a small hotel. It overlooks the less tranquil Lac de Gurcon - here one can swim from a sandy beach, windsurf, hire a pedalo and visit several bars and restaurants. There are tennis courts and a riding stables too. Other places locally to visit include St Emilion, Bergerac, Castillon La Bataille, Montpon-Menesterol, Libourne and Ste Foy La Grande. Also the great centres of Bordeaux and Perigueux can both be reached within the hour. Instructions on how to find the farmhouse will be sent on booking. The farmhouse has been lovingly and sympathetically restored to a high standard for year round living, hence full central heating and an open traditional fireplace (logs provided). Satellite television is installed and there is a compact disc and cassette player as well as a DVD player. There is a full sized, good quality pool table, a table-tennis table which is under cover and well over 2000 English written books to suit all tastes and ages. Guests also have the use of a direct line telephone.

Guinet is a small rural hamlet, one of which is Maison de la Ferme and another is where we live. A near neighbour and definitely worthy of a visit, should you come to Guinet, is our wine producer Jacques Mournaud. All who visit agree - "welcoming, memorable, repeatable, delicious experience". Superb wines and fabulous vintages well below English retail prices plus our 'daily delicious red' at 2 Euros (£1.60) a litre. Maison de la Ferme is surrounded by vines, woods and fields. There are walks and bike rides in all directions without the fear of heavy traffic - just the occasional tractor. Your first sight of the farmhouse is from the 200 metre private drive off a country lane - it's quite imposing. You can see the Chateau de Francs too as you drive down towards the house and then through the gates into the private, fenced and hedged garden which overlooks fields and woods. You are most welcome to walk through our woods and surrounding fields. Lily our pig occupies a special 'porkie' chateau near the woods and she always welcomes a visit, especially if you take her stale bread titbits. Hopefully she will have some piglets to show off too. There are two elderly ponies and a horse that can be ridden and played with and a very affectionate donkey called Nan Nan. There is also an ancient tractor that can be driven - a great favourite with children and Dads alike who have holidayed here. The swimming pool is heated from 1st April - 31st October, when chilly, at no extra charge and conforms to the new French regulations for child safety.

The accommodation comprises the following (please click the pictures to enlarge):

GROUND FLOOR

The entrance to the house is through a wide arched door into an impressive black and white quarry tiled hall with tall French dresser, 'Irish' cloakroom, doors to sitting room and dining room. Another door leads outside to an enclosed courtyard with a covered terrace. Here you can sit, eat or relax and watch the sun set while you sip a glass or two of quelquechose! You can do the same, of course, beside the pool or in the garden just outside the kitchen underneath the wisteria.

Sitting Room

19 ft x 17 ft with a high boarded ceiling, traditional terrazzo tiled floor and typical Aquitane fireplace with an open grate. The walls are exposed stone and there are lots of bookshelves and some unusual marbled furniture. There is a full sized pool table for guests to enjoy so the room is a comfortable place to sit and read, relax or play pool. A compact disc and cassette player are provided so bring along your favourite tapes and CD's. There is also a portable TV with incorporated VCR - although there is a small collection at the farmhouse, please bring your own favourite videos.

Dining Room

19 ft x 10 ft with old polished parquet floor and exposed stone walls with three Esmond Knight original oil paintings, more books as well as a shelf with a selection of board games and cards. A wide opening leads through to the kitchen and a low door (mind your head!) leads out on to the covered terrace.

Kitchen

FIRST FLOOR

The kitchen is definitely not MFI and boasts a wealth of reclaimed 1930's 'ragged and dragged' dressers and cupboards put together to meld with a five ringed gas cooker and oven, dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge/ freezer, micro-wave, larder and double sink. The work surfaces are tiled. There are plenty of pots, pans, china, cutlery and, most important of all, glasses - as we have already said, our local wine is superb! There is a wonderful old door that opens out from the kitchen to the front of the farmhouse where there is a table and chairs. There is a staircase in the corner of the kitchen that rises to the first floor landing and four en-suite bedrooms. Digital Satellite TV is viewable from both the kitchen and dining room.

The landing is light and airy with windows looking directly across the valley. All the bedrooms are fully carpeted and have colour co-ordinating drapes, plenty of drawers, hanging space and attractive views over the garden and fields beyond.

All of the above rooms have full gas central heating.

  Covered Veranda at Rear

OUTSIDE

The 1/4 acre private garden is securely fenced and hedged and overlooks fields and woods. Wide steps lead up to a rose trellised garden with a 9m x 6m shaped swimming pool that can be heated. The pool area is separately fenced and has an alarm system that conforms to the new French regulations regarding child safety. There is plenty of parking space immediately in front of the house which is approached by the private gated driveway.

On our farm we have ducks and chickens grazing and there are two ponies that can be ridden and played with and a very affectionate donkey called Anan. There is also an ancient tractor that can be driven - a great favourite with children and Dads alike who have holidayed here.

These prices include bed linen, towels and pool towels, central heating (when necessary), logs for the open fire, gas, electricity and water. Should guests require a change of linen during their stay, there is an additional charge of £20 per person - please denote this on the 'Special Requests' section of the Booking Form. The swimming pool will be heated from 1st April until 31st October to maintain water at above 25 deg C.

A complimentary buffet (hot and cold) is provided as a welcome meal using farm fresh produce whenever possible. We will also leave you a basic shop and a selection of local wines in a welcome pack. Occasional baby-sitting is free.

Unusually, we do not ask you for a security deposit to cover damage, breakages, etc. We, therefore, would ask you to look after Maison de la Ferme as though it was your own home. If you do happen to break or damage something then please notify us and replace it before you leave. We would also expect the farmhouse to be left clean and tidy - if you would like to have some help with housework, please ask and we can arrange for assistance at an hourly rate.

While you are staying at the farmhouse, the garden and the pool will be attended to - there is an automatic watering system installed but we shall still have to discretely go about the business of keeping everything "perfick".

So now, if you would like to book Maison de la Ferme, in the first instance, check availability above then phone or email to reserve your booking and, finally, print off, complete and sign the Booking Form below and return it, together with your deposit, to us at the address at the bottom of the Booking Form. All cheques should be made payable to G M Joiner and a receipt will be sent to the client.

Please take a few minutes to look at our Recommendation page - there is but a small selection from both adults and children.

To make a booking or enquiry please contact Jill Joiner by email
